I’m a second year Master’s in Library Science candidate. As a librarian, one of my professional goals is to increase access to information, and I carry that ethos into my research goals as well. My goals with this project is to increase the extant literature on non-binary genders in the West by examining how individuals perform their gender identities in digital spaces. Using data mined from social media sites allows for us to examine how individuals fluctuate in their presentation over time through Content Analysis, as well as who is participating in synchronous conversations about their gender through the use of self-identifying hashtags through Interaction Analysis.
