Project Debater is the first AI system that can debate humans on complex topics. The goal is to help people build persuasive arguments and make well-informed decisions. The project has spanned over 5 years and has helped advance the field of argumentation mining, e.g., argument detection and argument stance classification. I will discuss generally my involvement in the stance classification effort, and specifically look at how we handled sentiment in idiomatic expressions with a new lexicon.
