Faculty Digital Scholarship Advancement Award

2025-2026 Faculty Digital Scholarship Advancement Award

The Initiative for Digital Arts & Humanities and Digital Scholarship, part of the Institute for Advanced Study and IU Research, is pleased to announce the 2025-2026 Faculty Digital Scholarship Advancement Award. The objective of this award is to provide targeted funding and research support to Indiana University faculty pursuing research and creative activity which integrates digital methods or investigates the impacts, histories, or potentials of digital technologies. Awarded funds are intended to be used for personnel, service, and travel costs associated with the completion of discrete deliverables, such as a dataset, project prototype, suite of data visualizations, or public-facing web platform. In line with IUIAS and the Initiative’s mission of promoting cross-disciplinary engagement, faculty and their collaborators whose digital scholarship seeks to answer questions that transcend disciplinary boundaries are especially encouraged to apply. Digital scholarship is driven by collaboration between scholars with varied perspectives and skills, and precedence will be given to project teams which articulate a clear plan of work to engage the expertise of all investigators and participants, whether disciplinary or methodological.

Applicants may request up to $5,000 in research funding. Moneys awarded through this program are intended to defray the costs of compensation technical expertise and research assistance. Funds may be used to support collaborator travel only if such travel is essential to the work being done. The application should clearly demonstrate that the costs incurred will contribute to the completion of a significant stage in the project’s development, such as a complete prototype to be used for further external funding applications, or the public launch of a digital resource or tool.

The funding term of successful applications will not exceed one year. Extensions of the funding term up to one further year may be provided with appropriate justification. At the conclusion of the funding term, any unused funds will return to IAS. Awardees will be expected to remain in regular contact with the program team at IAS to report on progress, and will submit a formal report with regards to the funding’s outcomes within one year of the conclusion of the funding term. An acknowledgement of the support received from the Institute and the Initiative in a manner appropriate to the project’s character and in related publications is appreciated. Applications for the 2025-2026 cycle are due by 5:00 PM on December 5th 2025.
